artwork spotlight | how to write a new book for the bible

It seems every year we choose a play with an impossibly long title. This year it's HOW TO WRITE A NEW BOOK FOR THE BIBLE by Bill Cain. Luckily, the title fits in nicely in the artwork Emily Cooper created for this show - here's the artwork spotlight on this image!

This is the story of an aging mother and her son's attempts to care for her as her time comes to an end. Sounds somber, but truly, it's a fun one! Here's how the image breaks down:
  • The elderly mother is wearing some funky sunglasses and a halo because she is a little quirkier than your average granny
  • Lettermail border and indicia because the mother is known for writing a lot of letters and cards
  • The son has crumpled paper for a head because he's a writer
  • He is also very clearly being driven a little batty by his beloved mother
